Prof. hung (henry) hsiang Cheng – received his Ph.D from Clarendon Laboratory, Department of Physics, Oxford University UK in 1996. After serving as post-doc for a short period of time, he joint Nation Taiwan University in 1996 and working in group IV semiconductor since. He is a full research professor at Graduate Institute of Electronic Engineering and Center for Condensed Matter Sciences since 2006. He is a regular invited speaker at leading conferences around the world and has been a consultant to the key foundry in the field of semiconductor electronic and a member of Big League Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Ltd. (TSMC)). He has also organized key conferences, having been co-chair of the Silicon Photonics. He is the one of the founder, of the world’s leading Group IV photonics conference, IEEE. He currently leads the NSC-USA programme Taiwan Nanoscience on Group IV Photonics, and led the only taiwan partner contribution to the flagship Silicon Photonics programme in USA AirForce, projects that have yielded results demonstrating the first GeSn-based light emitting diode in the world, the photodetector with the best performance at mid-infrared regime, a new waveguide photodetector design for CMOS compatiable optoelectronic, the world’s first group IV imager chip operated at mid-infrared, and integrated source-modulator transmitters. His research interests cover from the semiconductor growth mechanism, nanofabrication, and optoelectronic. Recently, he turn the attention in bring the field of group IV photonics to the Optoelectronics and to interact with other world class activities in photonics. He has published more than 100 papers in the field.
